  Time is inevitable so typically the young must say goodbye to their parents, older relatives and others. It's comforting to know your loved ones are in a safe, quiet "sleeping place". (from the Greek) Grand View Cemetery is such a place. It was established in 1897 by German immigrants William and Ernestine Deutsch. Their family operated the facility until 1945 when it was deeded to the City of Anacortes. My first visit occurred in the late 1940's to attend the burial of my dad's uncle, Oscar Hjelmberg, a Swedish immigrant. Today there are six of my immediate family here. It's reassuring that on each visit over the past 70 years things remain constant; beautiful and tranquil. A special thanks to the City of Anacortes and to those that maintain this memorial park. The obvious care and quality of their work speak for itself.
